Wonderful production. Nice to hear great singers and a full orchestra.

Saw HMS Pinafore with my father years ago and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Wish there were more productions of GandS in our city. This looks like fun.

Thank goodness for the subtitles. Hardly any of the words are clear enough to hear.

Key phrase of his short intro is "My intention is to keep the audience hooked on the story", and NOT "I want to showpiece myself, regardless if I destroy the musical or dramatic structure the piece". Can there be a better approach? That's why I like him.

Wonderful to see a production that treats what may be the finest G&S collaboration with such respect without turning it into a museum piece. The performers all seem to be enjoying themselves and getting into the spirit of the thing. The directorial touches - like the sight gags worked into the costuming, and the interpolations in the Duke's Act II song - are light, deft, and tasteful, unlike the directorial conceits that weigh down and distort all too many productions of theater (e.g., of Shakespeare) and musical classics nowadays in pursuit of novelty.

This does not look bad at all. Eva has a bit too much of a hip swing in her vibrato. Sachs has meanwhile become a signature role for Finley. I will definitely not miss it, particularly as it seems a live stream out of a series of recent performances.❤

quite terrible!! I'm suprised why poplular opera singers sing so bad today. You'd better listen to Varady - she's perfect in Mozart!! Or at least Cherebassa (who's sings really unhelthy but not so bad as this) but not this disaster

Well, I did not expect a very traditional production from Pelly. But I found his Viennese Fille du Regiment and the Paris Barbiere very original and funny. Meistersinger is a different pair of shoes. I cannot tell much having watched only the OV trailers. The stage set seems not to be very atmospheric though. Easy to say having seen and sung in this legendary Mannheim National Theater production which has not yet found its match (Björn Waag, here in Madrid singing Ortel, had the part of Beckmesser back then - interested to see him again on the 18th.) Looking forward to it.

A fine performance, now that I've watched all of it. The Grand Inquisitor (a favorite character of mine!) was the best of the lot, but the rest of the cast was also very good. Bravo!

God what an incredible talent in Oropesa. And to do that while jumping on chairs and messing with that horrible stage direction.

The lyrics are so fast and so clever that sometimes I cannot keep up even reading the subtitles. Did an English live audience of 1889 understand everything?
